Downtown Jersey City

Downtown Jersey City is where NYC skyline views meet local neighborhood charm. It’s a hotspot for professionals, creatives, and families who want the best of both worlds—urban energy with a community vibe.

Think: cobblestone streets, historic brownstones, luxury high-rises, and waterfront strolls. Plus, you’re just one quick PATH ride to Manhattan.

This neighborhood is walkable, vibrant, and full of personality. Whether you're commuting, dining, or just living your best life—you can do it all right here.

Eats & Sips: Downtown Dining at Its Best

    • Lackawanna Coffee – Sleek and reliable with a back patio and solid espresso.

    • Semicolon Café – Korean-style café with killer sandwiches and creative drinks.

    • Short Grain – Chill vibes, matcha lattes, and Vietnamese cold brew magic.

    • Maggie’s Farm Espresso – Super cute, shabby chic vibes at this brunch/breakfast local staple.

    • Razza – Wood-fired pizza perfection with locally sourced ingredients. The crust has a cult following. The owner is a friend, and literally the best pizza chef in the world! Not just because I said so, he’s kind of a big deal. New York Times named Razza the best pizza in NY, and we’re in NJ!

    • Taqueria Downtown – The taco institution. Loud, casual, always packed, and always worth it. Get the steak quesadilla, you will thank me later! Margaritas pack a serious punch! Order one to sip outside while you wait on a table.

    • Domodomo – Sleek, upscale sushi and hand rolls, plus a Bib Gourmand nod. Great for impressing.

    • Porta – Rooftop pizza party energy with cocktails and big brunch vibes. Great for groups and birthdays.

    • South House – Southern comfort food with a Texas twist. Killer whiskey list, live music nights, and total downtown character.

    • Mathews – Chic and approachable with seasonal comfort food and excellent cocktails.

    • Würstbar – The go-to for the best beer/cider list in town, house-made brats, and loaded poutine. Patio seating, too.

    • Ani Ramen – Flavor-packed ramen and steamed buns in a hip & vibey space.

    • Honshu Sushi – Fresh sushi spot with a loyal fan base and great lunch specials.

    • Chickie’s – Bright, fun, and retro-styled. Think elevated Italian-American comfort food with major neighborhood love.

    • Rumba Café – Your go-to Cuban diner. Big portions, classic flavors, and always hits the spot. Skinny mojitos, yes please!

    • Café Dolma – Quaint, homey, and seriously delicious. Mediterranean-inspired brunch, lunch, and baked goods that feel like a warm hug.

    • Torico Ice Cream – A Downtown JC icon since 1968. Tropical flavors, homemade classics, and family-owned charm.

    • Milk Sugar Love – Organic, small-batch ice cream with inventive seasonal flavors and brownie sundaes. Say hi to Emma the owner for me!

    • Bang Cookies – Thick, gooey, ooey, and a little sinful. These oversized cookies are baked in JC and available hot at their Newark Ave storefront. (Get the sea salt chocolate chunk!)

    • Jam Cakery Events – Cozy vegan bakery tucked into a side street. Cupcakes, cakes, and custom treats that taste nothing like compromise. Tere the owner is the best!

Everything Else…

  • Support local, shop stylish, and find the perfect gift (or treat-yourself moment) without ever leaving the neighborhood.

    • Kanibal & Co. – The ultimate Jersey City boutique for home goods, gifts, paper goods, candles, and locally made everything. It’s like Anthropologie, but cooler and local.

    • Lovelocked – A dreamy little shop for handmade jewelry, meaningful gifts, and curated self-care items. Their vibe is all heart.

    • Hound About Town – Your pup’s favorite store. Chic leashes, healthy treats, adorable sweaters—you’ll wish they made it in human size.

    • Another Man’s Treasure – Vintage fashion lovers, this is your heaven. Curated 60s–90s pieces, funky accessories, and one-of-a-kind finds.

    • Rainy Day Apothecary – Small-batch skincare, essential oils, and healing vibes in a bottle. The space is as peaceful as the products.

  • From historic brownstones to full-service luxury condos, Downtown JC offers a wide range of homes that blend old-world architecture with modern amenities. You’ll find:

    • Lofts & converted warehouses

    • Luxury high-rises with NYC views

    • Renovated townhomes with backyard space (yes, really!)

Average price points are competitive for such close proximity to Manhattan, and demand is high—especially near Grove Street and Exchange Place PATH stations.

    • PATH to NYC: 10–15 minutes to Midtown or Downtown Manhattan

    • Ferry access: Exchange Place → Wall Street

    • Walkability: One of the most pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods in Hudson County

    • Transportation options: CitiBike, Zipcars, Uber/Lyft, light rail access

    • Young professionals who want to ditch the full NYC price tag

    • Families who love the schools and walkability

    • Artists, entrepreneurs, and first-time buyers looking for charm + convenience

Downtown JC has the energy of Brooklyn, the skyline of Manhattan, and the heart of Jersey.
